Johannesburg Dream Centre hosted an outreach day for the Grade 9 and 11 boys of Blue Eagle High School where they were mentored by accomplished men.
The boys participated in the day which was aimed at inspiring them to push forward with their dreams.

Director and co-founder of the centre, Alicia Swanepoel said the boys spoke to various mentors in different fields of work to better understand careers.
“We also had a panel discussion of people who had come from disadvantaged backgrounds and are now doing really well for themselves,” explained Swanepoel.

Football legends Benjani Mwaruwari and Sibusiso Zuma also attended the day to motivate and inspire the boys to follow their passions.
Swanepoel said, “Days such as these are based on giving children the tools to follow their dreams. The organisation is based around poverty alleviation on several fields. We have short-term projects which address the immediate need to be able to live, and we have mid-term projects which aim to empower people to work towards their careers.
“We find that many parents here are either store packers, cashiers or domestics which might not give the boys the full picture that they could be president, or a lawyer or whoever they want to be, this is was such days are made for.”

The centre’s biggest hope is that all the boys will eventually get to study at a university of their choice, having realised their dreams through such outreach programmes in the community.
