ABOUT THE RACE
The community of Cosmo City has come together to organise its first formal race to raise funds for their running club, the Cosmo City Athletics Club. The race will take place on the 13th of August 2016 and hosted at the Cosmo City Shopping Mall. The race will be run along the main road in the heart of Cosmo City which is a scenic route of the locality along South Africa Road.
This inaugural race is expected to attract more than 1,500 conditioned athletes, runners and walkers as well as 5,000 spectators from around the region.
The race will be a much awaited attraction for the community of Cosmo City and surrounding suburbs. This event will bring together the community and a platform for both young and old. The race will be open to all age groups and it will have different categories for different participants.
The race will be run over 8km after being advised by Central Gauteng Athletics on the maximum race length as anything above that will have to be classified as an official race under Athletics South Africa and available dates are only in the year 2017.
Theme for the Race
The race will be held on Tuesday the 9th of August on Woman’s Day an official public holiday in South Africa. Centre to the race will be promoting non-violence to woman and highlighting the role that women play in building communities. The theme tag line will be
“Our mothers, Our sisters and Our daughters.”
